Anglo-Saxon Villages

There were very few large towns in Anglo-Saxon Britain. Most people lived either on isolated farms or in small villages.

Most villages probably only had a few families living in them and basically would have consisted of a few farms.

Other types of activity may have been done in a village. There may also have been people doing other activites, such as a blacksmith, a bone carver and a leather worker. More important villages may also have had a weapon-smith making weapons and a silversmith or goldsmith making jewellery, although these sorts of activities may have been confined to towns or large villages, where there were more people to buy products.
