Iraq: Navel of the World

Buildings

Professor Sir Archibald Creswell (1879-1974), a founding father of the study of Islamic architecture, left his archive of photographic negatives to the Ashmolean Museum. These are some of the images he took in the 1920s of the most famous Islamic monuments in Iraq. They now form part of the Creswell Photographic Archive in the Department of Eastern Art, Ashmolean Museum.
