Credits and copyright

This website is based on a temporary exhibition that was held in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford from April 2003 to March 2004. Both were designed and produced by Luke Treadwell and Eleanor Robson, with help from many kind colleagues and friends in the museum.

We are particularly grateful to Annie Holly, who took the splendid photographs of all the museum objects. Copyright in these photographs is held by the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. They may not be reproduced without permission and acknowledgement. Manuscript illustrations are from Richard Ettinghausen, Arab painting, SKIRA 1960.

Luke Treadwell is an Assistant Keeper in the Heberden Coin Room at the Ashmolean Museum and a University Lecturer in Islamic Numismatics at the Oriental Institute, University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of St Cross College, Oxford.

Eleanor Robson is a University Lecturer at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford.
