The royal throne is an ancient symbol of power. This beautifully carved but badly burnt ivory from Nimrud (ancient Kalhu) was the arm of a throne belonging to king Esarhaddon, who ruled Assyria in 680-669 BC., but made perhaps 200 years earlier.
