ANGLO-SAXON OXFORDSHIRE

AN ANGLO-SAXON SETTLEMENT BARROW HILLS, RADLEY

Radley Barrow Hills is an archaeological site well known for its many Neolithic and Bronze Age features, which have been excavated by Oxford Archaeology Unit since 1972. However a Roman cemetery and an early Anglo-Saxon settlement have also been discovered at this site.

Two copper alloy pins (AN1988.53-54) and a pair of tweezers (AN1988.56) from OAU excavations

The settlement was found to contain traces of post-hole structures, sunken-featured buildings and rubbish dumps. Finds from this settlement indicate it was in use from the early fifth to seventh centuries.

The finds from this site are now in the Ashmolean Museum.
