Western Art Prints Collection
The Ashmolean's collection of 15th and 16th century Italian prints comes, for the most part, from the collection of the English antiquary Francis Douce (1757-1834). In 1834 Douce bequeathed his impressive gathering of prints, drawings, books, manuscripts, coins and medals to the Bodleian Library and in 1863 the finest prints, together with drawings, entered the museum. They form today an extraordinary resource for learning about the genesis and development of prints and printmaking.
