Albarello (storage jar)

Venice, perhaps, c. 1500 - 1550

earthenware, tin-glazed (maiolica), blue and white

Pharmacy jars with blue and white decoration more or less in imitation of Chinese porcelain were made in more than one part of Italy from the beginning of the sixteenth century. They are difficult to attribute locally, but Venice seems to have been a major centre of production.
