The glaze on this plate is tinted turquoise-green. The potter Alan Caiger-Smith considers this was probably achieved by mixing copper carbonate into the glaze.

Pieces similarly decorated and painted on a comparable turquoise-greenish glaze have been attributed to the Chigi-family-sponsored workshop at S. Quirico d’Orcia, Tuscany. See M. Anselmi Zondadari et al., Ceramica chigiana a San Quirico, exhib. cat., San Quirico and Siena 1996-7, nos 66-70, implying a date range from about 1690 to 1730.
