Louys George
Gilt-brass and rock crystal cased verge watch in the form of a fleur-de-lis

Cases: The inner case has gilt-brass rims with a rock-crystal back, band and cover, all in the shape of a fleur-de-lys. Original silver outer case in the form of a cruciform fleur-de-lis with lobed arms. A single hook at the side for closing. A small square hinge. At the top and bottom are holes for the pendant and finial on the watch. There is some gilding around the sides. Dial: Gilt-brass dial with an applied silver chapter-ring with hours I-XII and heart-shaped half-hour marks surrounding a circle calibrated in half hours. The central area is engraved with a rustic scene and flowers. Blued-steel hand. Movement: Cruciform plates with four baluster pillars. Ratchet and click set-up; fusee with gut line; three wheel train; verge escapement with a screwed on balance cock. Signed on the back plate: Louys George (an unrecorded maker).
