Oval silver cased verge clock-watch with alarm and calendar

Case: Oval case with a gilt-brass band pierced and engraved with foliate scrolls. Plain silver back and lid. Silver pendant with loose ring. Dial: Plain gilt-brass dial plate with an applied silver chapter-ring with hours I-XII twice. Within this is a manually-set gilt-brass ring, engraved with the moon's age. In the centre a silver alarm-setting disc is engraved with an aspectarium with an aperture to show the moon phase. The alarm setting disc is calibrated 1-12 twice. On the back of the case a large gilt-brass dial has concentric rings for the months with the number of days in each, a series of saints' days, the zodiacs and their starting dates. The blued-steel hand is probably a replacement. Movement: Oval gilt-brass plates with four baluster pillars. Gilt-brass ratchet and click set-up on the back plate; fusee with chain and standard stop-work; four wheel going train; verge escapement, the verge, crown wheel, dumb-bell balance and balance cock are not original. Striking train, for hours only, powered by a fixed gilt-brass barrel; train of solid gilt-brass wheels; the last a weighted pinion; warned release; silver count-wheel. Alarm train powered by a fixed gilt-brass barrel; three wheel train of solid gilt-brass wheels; verge operated hammer. Movement signed: Johann Sayller In Vlm Johann Sayller, born in Angelsberg, Bavaria in 1597, went to Ulm in 1617 where he was a Burgher in 1624, married the same year and became Master of the Clockmakers' Guild in 1646. He died in 1668.
