The cover is engraved with a depiction of (?) David before Saul and (?) David and Jonathan. Dial: Gilt-brass dial plate engraved with foliate scrolls, birds and putti. An applied silver chapter-ring with hours I-XII and v-shaped half-hour marks and with small touch-pins at the hours. The area within the chapter-ring is engraved with a depiction of Cupid and Psyche. Single blued-steel hand. Movement: Oval gilt-brass plates with four baluster pillars. Mainspring barrel with tangent screw set-up mounted on the back plate. Fusee now altered to chain and with standard stop-work; three wheel train; verge escapement; pierced foliate balance cock pinned to a stud on the back plate. Movement signed: Pasquier Peiras ABlois Pasquier Peyras, Blois, 1594-1632. Notes: Certain characteristics of this watch suggests that it is not altogether genuine. The case and dial decoration and the existence of touch pins suggest an early 17th-century date. The tangent screw set-up, however, suggest a date no earlier than c. 1640. It may also be significant that areas of the gilding are missing from the back plate around the signature. It is probably an altered movement from the mid-17th century which has been re-signed and fitted to the case and dial.
