Oval gilt-brass and silver cased verge watch with sundial

Case: Oval gilt-brass case with hinged lid and bezel. The lid was originally solid silver. The hinged silver back has an engraved sundial with compass and folding silver gnomon. The applied silver band is engraved with foliate scrolls and animals. The back is engraved with a depiction of Narcissus at the Pool in the manner of Etienne Delaune (1518-1595). Dial: Gilt-brass dial plate engraved with reclining nude figures at the top and bottom. Applied silver chapter-ring with hours I-XII and v-shaped half-hour marks. The area within the chapter-ring is engraved with foliate scrolls with a rabbit above the centre and a winged cherub's head below. Movement: Oval gilt-brass plates with four baluster pillars. Gilt-brass barrel with ratchet and click set-up; fusee with gut line and standard stop-work; three wheel going train; verge escapement; pierced foliate balance cock pinned to a stud on the back plate.
