Joseph was warned in a dream by an angel to flee with Mary and the young Child and to remain in Egypt until the death of Herod (Matthew 2:13-15). A879 is a possibly contemporary version of a composition by Zurbar´n sent from Seville to Spanish America c.1650 and formerly in the Franciscan church in Lima, Peru.
