Buildings [2]
Medieval scribes and scholars lived, taught, and studied in madrasas, or religous schools.
The caliph Mustansir founded a madrasa on the banks of the Tigris in Baghdad in 1230 CE and
so it is called al-Mustansiriyya after him. In the 1920s, when Creswell took this photo,
it was being used as a storage yard but it has since been restored as a historic monument.
