Writing [5]

This small black stele records the gift of land from prince Ashur-nadin-shumi to one of his officials in Kish in the early 7th century BC. The prince is shown in typically Babylonian style, in a cap with a very long tassel and holding an object like a fly-whisk in front of his face. Above him are a cluster of divine symbols: the god Nuska's lamp; the crescent moon; and a mushhushu dragon representing the god Marduk. Only a little of the Akkadian inscription can be seen on the front - most of it is on the back of the monument.
