Iraq: Navel of the World

Country Life [1]

Fish has always been an essential part of the Iraqi diet, as this 5000-year-old fish hook from Jemdat Nasr shows. We also find fish used as decorative motifs on table-ware. This large clay fish, which has a hole in its back and a small spout in its mouth, must have been an amusing addition to the dinner table 2000 years ago.
